Tayrona National Natural Park 🌴

We started trekking around 8:15AM at the Calabazo entrance.

There are 2 entrances into the Parque Nacional. The Calabazo entrance is the less frequented entrance because it takes 2 hours to trek from the Calabazo town entrance to the park entrance. Luckily you can hire a mototaxi to drop you off at the park entrance, and that's what my friend Isa and I did.

💸 Price Breakdown:

• 10.000 pesos for motoxi
• 5.000 pesos for Associaton of Agriculture of Sierra Nevado of Santa Marta fee
• 6.000 pesos for medical insurance fee (green wrist band)
• 62.000 pesos for park entrance fee for non-Colombian citizens (yellow wrist band)

This route had a lot of inclines and switch backs, but once we got to the beach side, it was mostly flat. 

The most popular beach is the Cabo San Juan Beach, which had tents and hammocks you can rent and stay in the park.

Once you reach the beach side of the park, there are several beaches you can stop and relax at!!

We also took some time to chill and eat at La Piscina Beach. There were some food stalls for fruits and snacks.

Zaino Entrance is the Main Entrance into the National Park. Theres' a shuttle bus that takes you up to the hiking part. This way is mostly flat, and easier to trek along to get to the beach side. There are also horses you can hire to ride to take you to the beach.

 It was a beautiful experience to visit Tayrona National Park!! If I were to do it again, I would definitely hike from the Zaino Main entrance and stay a night or two in the park. We did not see any animals in the park during our trip, but I found a site that mentioned there are lots of animals that can be spotted in this beautiful park!! 🌴

So I’m back in Cartagena, Colombia 🇨🇴!!! 

After I returned from India, and I was subbing a bunch … I  realized I can take another trip if I wanted… so I decided why not return to Colombia?! My friend Isa was back and we were chatting and she suggested why not come back and get my open water diving certificate?? I said okay!! lol 😂 

I received the online training course via email and completed it the morning before flying out!! Yes, I’m a procrastinator!! All I needed was 75% on the final exam, and I received 76%!! Phew!! 😮‍💨 

I felt comfortable and more inclined to return and do it because the last time I was here I did the introduction course. 

Diving Planet

The first day we spent the morning in the pool practicing the signs and other exercises needed for diving. Then we went out and did it in open water. We did two dives that day. The second day we met at the pool in the morning again and practiced the necessary skills needed for open water diving. Then we went out and did two dives again. And now I’m certified!!!

I rested for 2 days before deciding to go out and do my first open water dive as a certified PADI diver!! It was so exciting!! I hope I made my instructor proud. 🌊

Whoa!! It was a busy two months subbing at various schools across Seattle School District!!

AND it has been illuminating how different and unique each school is. 

I have really enjoyed subbing at the elementary schools as the reading interventionist and engaging is fun convos with the students as well. ♡

I have told SPS that I plan to return for next school year and I look forward to what the future holds. ✨

it all lined up perfectly for us to attend Krissti + Nikhil's wedding in Bangaluru in January~!  i met Krissti from book club through Saraswati and Monica. grateful that we can attend and witness the beautiful love that Krissti + Nikhil have for each other!! can't wait to celebrate them in Seattle next!!! ❤☺

here are some photos from the two days of wedding events [January 17 - 18]. we attended the mehendi (pre-wedding) party the night before the south indian Brahmin wedding ceremony in the morning the next day. got up around 6:30 to get my sari drapped! and we had to get on the shuttle bus by 8AM to arrive to the venue by 9:30AM.

Saraswati officiated the western wedding ceremony that night on the rooftop of our hotel in Bangaluru. It was beautiful!!!

i immediately felt a sense of relief once i got to Goa!! i was not expecting Delhi to be as cold as it was... i guess i assumed all of India would be hot!! haha. but yes, it is a large country with diverse climates, cultures, languages, religions, and foods.

i was in agonda beach in south Goa, and everyday there would be amazing sunsets like the one photo i have above. everyone would gather on the beach to watch the sunset. some even braved the pounding ocean waves.

i arrived first to Goa, while Aditi and Saraswati went to Chennai to visit families. once they arrived we walked around the small town to find some local Goan food.  it was delicious!! AND the prices were significantly lower once we were not on the main touristy street parallel to the beach. 

new friends who also live in Seattle~!!

before Aditi and Saraswati arrived, i met two new friends who are both professors for UW Business School in Seattle and Bothell!!! This amazing couple were staying at the same hotel i was staying at. They live in Shoreline, and it was a pleasant surprise to learn how many parallels in life experiences we all shared. They are on sabbatical too, and traveling as much as they can before their 1st born child arrives!! it was a very fortunate meeting, because you know that feeling where it feels like you've known someone for longer? that's how I felt with these two!! so lucky!! AND we planned to meet up once we are all back in Seattle. ☺

i kind of randomly chose Agonda Beach when I was looking at places to stay in Goa. I wanted a secluded small beach town. From the airport to Agonda Beach is about 1.5 hour drive!! and even though that was a long drive, i am very very happy that I stayed in Agonda Beach area. it felt like a very hippie chill place. it actually felt like i wasn't really in India. LOL, but I was!!

if you ever go to GOA, i definitely recommend checking out Agonda Beach... if i ever return... i would definitely like to spend some time in Panaji, Goa (north of the airport) and back at Agonda Beach (south Goa).

a day in delhi 🌻

After the whirlwind adventures to get to Delhi... I did make it!! 

Slept for a few hours, and did a day trip around Delhi with my friend Saraswati. Originally, her and I and one more friend Aditi were supposed to arrive the night before, but Aditi and I had issues with our flights!!

We did NOT research about the Taj Mahal... and lo and behold they are closed on Fridays. So... Saraswati and I did a day trip around Delhi. 

And eventually Aditi arrived that Friday night!

When I first booked the hotel for Delhi, we chose a place that was cheap and close to the airport. Little did we know, that the hotel was not the same location as showed on Booking.com AND it had no heat!! We were freezing that first night, and after our day trip around Delhi... we decided to book another hotel with heat!!

It was quite the adventure getting to Delhi, and the one day I spent in Delhi too!! ❤ Until next time... I still would someday love to visit the Taj Mahal... it just did not work out this time.
