Day 4~ FTGC 🌐

On Thursday morning we heard from folx from Enseña Perú (NGO), Ministry of Education, Peace Corps. Peru, and Funglish Education Specialist.

We heard about the new perspectives on teaching and learning in Peru, and its challenges

I think there are various organizations that are wanting to create opportunities to better support education throughout Peru. I appreciate how there are different structures of Basic Education, Special Education, Alternative Basic Education (Adult Education), and Bilingual Intercultural Education are in the public school system.

There are many similarities that the U.S. have with the struggles of education in Peru. One panelist mentioned one difference of how individualistic views in the U.S. is higher than in Peru, therefore students still have respect for their teachers. Peru is more collectivist and they think about their community needs more than their individual needs.

Panel on Education Policy, Practice, and Innovation 🇵🇪

In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Embassy in Lima. We were not allowed to bring any electronics. We ONLY brought our passports, which made me nervous to carry. BUT we went straight there and back from the hotel.

We heard from an RSO (Regional Service Officer) on a safety briefing. Then we heard from a nurse. THEN we had a discussion with folx from the Ministry of Education.

We were given an electronic ear piece that allowed us to listen to live translation from the interpreter.  It was challenging to listen to the interpreter while someone was speaking in Spanish. BUT it was neat to see and experience how we can have conversations across different languages with a live interpreter.
